The National Down Syndrome Society established the Buddy Walk to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to celebrate National Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. This year, 275 communities across the nation will host Buddy Walks. The Anderson Buddy Walk is hosted by Family Connection of South Carolina.
Buddy Walk is a fundraiser for both Family Connection and the National Down Syndrome Society. The walk is free, but participants can register a team to accept donations and may purchase t-shirts for $10 per shirt. For team building and registration information, visit www.firstgiving.com/bwanderson.
Family Connection is a parent-to-parent support network for families of children with special needs. The organization currently has 562 active volunteer support parents who have completed training through a curriculum designed with professionals to provide skills and information required in this role. As support parents, they then are carefully matched with another parent requesting support.
